Since 1990, 2.6 billion people have gained access to improved water, according to the Global Analysis & Assessment of Sanitation & Drinking Water by the World Health Organization (WHO). In rural areas in Indonesia, only half of the population has access to clean water and improved sanitation facilities. P&G, in partnership with World Vision and Indomaret, engaged consumers in raising awareness about the importance of clean water. The campaign resulted in 12 million litres of clean water being provided to the people in need.
The WHO has also announced its new director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to take on the post from July 2017. A malaria expert and Ethiopia’s former health minister, Ghebreyesus is the first African to lead the United Nations agency in its 69-year history. Read more
